A BRIEF CITY PROFILE

Kani City is located in the “heart” of Japan, in the south part of Gifu Prefecture.
It is a city formed on tradition and history, blessed with abundant greenery and a rich natural environment.
The hill situated in the east part of the city is famous for being the cradle of Shino Pottery. The central part is famous for being the place where the great General Mitsuhide Aketi was born and for the ruins of Akechi Castle.
The City offers tree parks with huge green areas, where it is possible to enjoy the flora of all four seasons. The Flower Festival Commemorative Park, which the City is very much proud of, has 41.000 plants in 1.450 varieties inside the “Wondrous Japanese Rose Garden”.

CITY TREE

Black Pine
The black pine is a tall evergreen tree, which has a blackish gray bark. It grows well throughout the city and is a very familiar tree to all citizens. The black pine was adopted as the official tree of Kani City on 01-November-1974. It symbolizes a city of quick progress and development, because of its capacity to maintain green and young during all four seasons.

CITY FLOWER "Azalea"

Azalea
The azalea is a flower, which suggests kindness and beauty and has an intimate relationship with the citizens of Kani. In the middle of May, it can be seen throughout the city in many colors such as white, pink, and red etc. This flower was adopted as one of the city's symbols on 1-April-1982 in commemoration of the municipal code implementation.

CITY FLOWER "Rose"

Rose
The rose became the symbol of the city on 01-March-2005 because of the existence of the Flower Festival Commemorative Park which is a pride of the city. The park was the scene for the "Flower Festival Gifu 2005" and the birthplace of the "World Rose Garden" which boasts of approximately 7,000 varieties of roses from around the world.
The rose symbolizes the effort and inspiration in making this city a comfortable and pleasant place to live.
Furthermore, on 29-September-2008 the "Kani- otome" was chosen as the rose of Kani City.  

 

CITY CREST

The design of the crest was created from a modern conception of the Chinese character; (ka) "可" taken from Kani "可児". It expresses harmony and unlimited quick progress.
